The tree pruning logic of Sterling Heights has been confusing to me for many years now. The tree on the right was my favorite one in front of our house. I look at it every morning. It offered some semblance of shade to our yard & privacy from our neighbors across the street... until today. What was once a beautiful tree has been completely gutted. The workers didn't even remove the shopping bag stuck high up in that tree while they had the cherry picker right next to it. I get that these trees are on city property and the legal liability involved in that but they left 2 dead limbs in the tree to the left and gutted smaller living branches from the one on the right that weren't threatening to the road nor the sidewalk. They left other similar looking trees entirely alone and seemed to just chop away willy nilly. The last time they "pruned" the one on the left, it didn't recover well. They're also stripping many of the super tall trees in the whole neighborhood so high up that they look like Seussical palm trees. It is oddly unnatural and I wonder how many will die because of it. Other neighborhood trees across various cities do not look as poorly maintained as the ones here do. If curb appeal and property value are as seemingly important here as the city boasts, I don't understand why they're ruining something as important as the trees.
