Is this the sidewalk entrance to the bike path in front of kline where you have to lift your bike?

Is it really necessary to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a bike ramp to avoid the slight inconvenience of detouring via Sachem and Prospect? I'm a cyclist myself, but I don't see any pressing need for special treatment here.

I don't think a ramp is necessary, but I would appreciate a metal trough on the side of the stairs so that people can dismount and roll their bikes up rather than having to physically carry them up the stairs. Not everyone has a bike light enough to do that, you know. Bike troughs for stairs are relatively inexpensive and can be bolted right into the existing stairs.

Actually, this is something that has been bugging me for some time and I meant to contact Yale about it. For someone pushing a stroller out with the baby for a pleasant walk, this is very difficult to access. I always wished there was a better way of cutting through Science Hill from St. Ronan to Hillhouse (a much nicer way to walk than along busy, loud Whitney Ave.). Many college campuses provide cycle routes through areas similar to this; I've always wondered why Yale doesn't provide one here.

I would also like a ramp here for wheelchair and stroller access to the lower door of KBT and for continuity to the courtyard between Kroon and Osborn. Travelling around here with stroller just to get into the library or lab is not easy.

Don't put in a bike ramp, put in a wheelchair ramp that cyclists and wheelchairs and strollers can all use. This path goes all the way up to the Gibbs/KBT courtyard plus the lower entrance to KBT and Science Library and is completely wheel-friendly except for this small staircase at the bottom.

How much money needs to be spent to cater to every little comfort of the Yale community? In real life sometimes you have to "tough it out" and endure small inconveniences. Look on the bright side, perhaps you might just get a little stronger from having to carry your bike.

I agree with Brian that a metal trough would help a lot. Has anyone contacted Yale Transportation to see if they would install one on the stair?

I would favor a wheelchair-width ramp out of the options mentioned above. That would help people wheeling carts of books, specimens and apparatus as well as people in wheelchairs, in strollers and on bicycles.
