I drive this way everyday. There are two stop signs where both Perry and Union intersect with Ballston Ave. However, people stopping at the Union St. stop sign then pull forward and stop right at Ballston Ave blocking Perry St. Not sure why exactly, you can clearly see in both directions so there's no need to stop twice. It is a poorly designed intersection but people who stop twice make it worse. Don't know how many times I've gone to turn right onto Ballston Ave. when the person in front of me going straight stops again causing me to nearly hit them from behind.

FYI, it will be news to many that the current project to address the 2 intersections of Ballston Ave (Route 50 ) with Hamilton Street and with Lincoln Ave.also proposes significant changes to the intersection of Ballston Ave with Perry and Union Streets. A center left turn lane is proposed on Ballston Avenue which will address the accident problems shown to be occuring at the intersection with Perry/Union. This is good. What the general public doesn't know yet is that of the 2 current proposed alternatives the first would also make Union Street one-way in the northbound direction between Lincoln Ave and Ballston Ave.and the other proposed alternative would close / dead-end Union Street on the south side of Ballston Avenue. The City's preferred altearntive is the latter. Neither of these actions are necessary to address the existing accident pattern. Both would send traffic now using Union Street to come/go between West Circular Street and South Broadway to other parallel routes exaccerbating documented (and already much worse) accident problems at other nearby intersections. This is bad. I'm all for the proposed improvements at the intersections of Ballston Ave with both Lincoln Ave and with hamilton Street, and also in favor of the added left turn lane on Ballston Ave at Perry/Union Streets, but the other changes to the latter intersection are problematic. A 3rd proposed alternative is needed along with more public involvement. Dead-ending or making Union Street one-way would affect a lot of people and this was downplayed in the announcement for the public meeting held last fall.
