You are correct about the sign formerly having two arrows. It isn’t very clear from my picture, but the “straight” arrow has been very neatly covered over, leaving the left arrow intact. The lane marking on the ground has not been altered.
It may be that our sign experts feel that having only left-pointing arrows is more clear than the bendy arrow from before. But that will confuse locals who expect to be able to continue south-bound, and now feel they are being forced to turn left onto Hillsborough.
