My concern is the growing dumping site at the corner of Oak and 6th right as we make the turn to go to Jack London Square. I walk to Bart down Oak street and the 2 people that have decided the sidewalk and corner are now their "homes" have carts/boxes/containers full of garbage and discarded plastic, cardboard, human waste that has become very unsanitary and difficult to even walk in the area. Often at the stop sign Oak/6th carts are in the streets and garbage is now over the sidewalk.

Oakland City Hall needs to enforce current municipal code and clear out these illegal encampments.
The mayor needs to stop with the boo-hoo pity party on the ending of redevelopment funds as the excuse for the explosion of illegal encampments. Here’s the solution - enforce municipal code. If you allow & enable people to live on the streets, guess what happens. And if she wants to keep up dignity & compassion talk, she can allow these illegal encampments at City Hall or any other city property.
Mayor needs to spend less time playing lookout for ICE activities; the 47% increase in homeless folks occurred during her watch & under her policies. Current policies ain’t working. Don’t need another commission to examine the situation for another 6 months.

I agree with every word of what h21 said. Bravo!
Oakland has a shortage of low-income housing, and people are losing their shelter due to soaring rents, but that's a separate issue.
These people have no right to camp out and pile up their sh!t on whatever street they choose. It's that simple: a land (ab)use issue.
I don't care whether these people want to do drugs, or even whether they're homeless. If they have "deep roots" in Oakland, why won't anyone put them up? Time to move on -- and get out of our face.
Where should they go? That's their problem, not ours.

I don't care what substances these people want to mess with, or even whether they're homeless. If they have "deep roots" in Oakland, why won't anyone put them up? Time to move on -- and get out of our face.

This illegal encampment needs to be removed.
