  How disturbing to hear of another encampment in our neighborhood. It's so sad that City of Oakland politicians use the homeless as a political football , but never seem to find housing for the homeless. Instead, neighborhoods feel the negative,neighborhood effects of this problem. The 14th Avenue underpass camp is filled up, so this new encampment on Randolph Avenue looks like "spill over: growth. Governor Newsom is giving lip service to address the homeless problem with large sums of money. I wonder if and when the City of Oakland receives funding to address the homeless problem, they will actually do anything.

  The term " homeless" is over used. To be excepted into housing they have to follow rules. Almost every of these street people I have dealt with is incapable of following rules. If you are an addict, mentally ill or both have pets there is no where for them to go. Almost none of the millions of tax dollars is making it down to there level. All the enabling and pandering at the tax payer expense of these people need to stop. Wheres the tough love.

  Thanks, Mr. Coleman for your insight. I personally know one of the "homeless" persons living in the 14th Avenue I-580 underpass. I know this person to be a very long time, substance abuser who is indifferent to making any changes in their life at all. Subsidizing anyone who is self-destructive is a waste of time. Change comes from within a person not from a government program. Help those who are helping themselves.

  Also one the Dimond regulars Anthony Rippee was living in front of this storage facility when he was hit by a tree branch. He had a large number people attempting to help him. The only help he wanted was from malt liquor and cheap brandy. He was costing the tax payers about $33,000 a month EMT rides to Highland. Sadly these people are not getting or really want help. Related you tube " Is Seattle Dying". I know most them by name in my neighborhood.
