@SCF Why does this get automatically tagged as a "drain problem"?

Public space is synonymous with the sewer system in New Haven , I guess. Sad. Advertising MacDonald's at a high school and so near the young'uns at the wonderful Neighborhood Music School, not such a good idea.

And this piece of trash is in the ARTS DISTRICT??? Doesn't zoning have a say in placement of these? This does NOT seem to be good city planning.

I am appalled at this mis-use of public space... .

Who is collecting the 'advertising money' and how did this happen outside of 'public process'.....renting out sidewalk space seems like something that would need some real variances and approvals....

I object! This is AWFUL! And I agree with those who say there should be zoning rules, variances approved etc. Pathetic. Can't Yale toss in a few dollars to deter New Haven from doing tacky stuff like this? It's embarrassing.

How does a normal citizen complain to the city about these signs? Who to contact?

There is also one located next to the Yale Rep. theater across the street from the old Bangkok Garden.

There are five of these at Miyas, Yale Rep, ECA, Hillhouse, Grove..... These are considered mini-panels', as described in the sign ordinance, and require a special exception and a 'plan'....did this proposal make it to a Zoning Hearing, or are these just patently illegal......

I just went through the last two years of Zoning Agendas, and don't see any 'special exception' hearing for this 'signage' project.....

I'm pretty sure these signs are associated with the new bike share system. Doug Hausladen confirmed that 1/3 of the bike share's revenue is advertising, so it sounds like it will be going towards that. Sad that local businesses cant afford that advertising space and instead McDonalds gets to promote itself. Particularly frustrating when the implementation of a sustainable and healthy public system like a bike share necessitates these unwanted side effects. I, for one, would rather pay more in taxes than have signs like those.
