Beschreibung

At least 100 of us who live facing the Zoo's North Rd got no sleep 6/7 until 1AM thanks to extremely loud nighttime/overnight non-emergency roadwork they scheduled. I've learned it's scheduled for tonight, 6/8, as well. And I've also learned thru the MPD that this is probably illegal. The zoo is unable to explain to me why this work is so urgent that it can only be performed at night. I've called 311, DPW, DDOT only to be transferred around to VM recordings stating that I will get a callback the next business day - which doesn't do a bit of good in fixing this violation set to occur tonight.
The details are:
a) DPW (673-6833) - I was told it was not their area
b) DDOT (671-3368) - I couldn't get a straight answer as to why this was being permitted or who made such decisions. I was told I was being transferred to Streets Immediate Assistance (673-6813).
c) Streets Immediate Assistance is certainly a misnomer: it has a recording saying calls would be responded to the next business day.
d) I called 311. Was told I had to talk to DDOT. Told them I already had and couldn't get a live person on the phone. They switched me again to DDOT.
e) I explained it again to DDOT. I was told I was being switched to Ramont Washington, traffic services administrator.
f) Ramont Washington's phone has a message that says calls would be returned the next business day. Again, that doesn't do any good for this evening.
This is simply a disgrace. The Zoo has lots of respect for its animals but none for its neighbors. The DC city phone lines that are supposedly set up for quick response on local emergencies are set up not to answer in a timely fashion and maybe actually fix things. Those of us who live around this street are simply furious about all this and unless the situation is resolved, we will be calling 911 at 8PM tonight.
