What exactly has to be done to get these potholes taken care of? There are at least 6 posts on this site about the potholes in this specific alley. People living on Forest hill have no street parking and must use this alley to reach their homes, no option. After a post is "acknowledged," does anything actually happen, or does the post disappear into the ether with no action being taken?

I have a hunch alley potholes are getting less priority because they can be more complicated to fix/locate. "Acknowledged" reminds the city periodically about the issue and allows you to comment to add additional information or request follow up.

If there is a duplicate post for the same issue it can be helpful to copy the service # from the previous request into the new one's comments, and comment to request the less detailed, or less up-to-date be closed.
