Because they claim it "saves lives" and makes them more visible to drivers. 100% of the people who say this have NO idea what the Doppler effect is. Its only loud from behind. After the bike has passed.
I had a Honda Goldwing with a pin hole in the exhaust. They would not give me an inspection sticker. But I have bikes go by me all the time that are so loud you cant even think. Sorry i have a problem with this big time. How are they getting stickers????????????
I agree DR! Someone (Inspection Station) isn't doing their job. Time for some clamping down on the slacking inspectors. Sure, anyone can put the stock exhaust back on, go get a sticker, ride home and yank off the mufflers and throw them back under the workbench and then fire that baby up and go roaring and blatting to their hearts content. That makes it a law inforcement issue that's not being inforced.
I will only say this. I have ridden a Honda all my life.Thats about 50 years I have been riding. I have never been in an accident.and hope i never will be. But I have a couple of good friends that have been on there LOUD bikes. So explain to me why the load helps. DT
Your right ...with some people having thier radio or cd play so loud the backseat falls apart probably will not help, but I have never had anone pull out infront of me........yet.
Actually, there was ALMOST a law that included decibel meter readings. The problem is, NONE of the police motorcycles in the state would have passed that inspection. Cops ride Harleys. So much for decibel readings....
This will be my last comment. I dont care at all what kind of a bike anyone rides at all. I have found that no matter what kind of bike folks ride, most of the people are great folks. Im so sorry it is just annoying to have to listen to the loud bikes when they have to crank on the gas for no absolute reason at all. It is done just to be annoying is all. The cool thing to do. I ride with people that have loud exhaust BUT they take off in a reasonable way.And when they come to a stop they dont wind the throttle at all. Now why is it they dont have to do that????????? My guess is they are grown up and have common sense and have courtesy for others. All of you ride safe and enjoy. DT
This whole "Be heard to be seen" mind set is so bogus! If you choose to ride a motorcycle, I feel you are making the desicion to accept the fact that you are putting yourself at risk of injury or death due to the lack of protection that is provided by traveling in a car/truck ( not to mention the whole helmet saga). If I can still hear you after you've gone by me a mile away, what's the point?
