Yes, I want to report the same exact issue. This is extremely dangerous and happens with both traffic lights at this intersection!

Came here to report this exact issue! Why are screens on the bottom lights?!?! Seriously, we can do better than this.

The green part of the traffic lights at the intersection of Westgate and Lumley are not visible until you’re almost right under them. It is very dangerous and needs to be changed asap. I have never seen another stoplight that you couldn’t see while approaching an intersection.

This is already a confusing and dangerous intersection, but it’s compounded by the horrible visibility of the green lights passing under the bridge on both sides. This definitely needs to be addressed.

I just pray as i approach these lights that a wind will turn them at an angle that will show me if they are green or not. It is not until I'm in the intersection that I know whether to go or stop--which of course is too late. Please, please, please find a way to fix these lights.

Folks are driving blind through this intersection. The lights have NEVER hung properly and you can't tell if it's red or green under you're practically underneath it. Come on - do better!! This is a real safety hazard and getting worse with the increase in traffic.

I had to go through that light twice in the last year and it freaked me out both times. I could not tell whether the light was red or green until I was right under it. I was scared to death I would get rear-ended, going too slow if it was green - or get t-boned if it was really red. (From the airport on Lumley, crossing under hwy 70 where it becomes Westgate.) To the traffic engineers, I challenge you to take that route and see what you think!

Please do something to make this intersection safer!

It is crazy to me these lights were picked to be used, much less still hanging there! These are so dangerous and cannot be seen until you are in the intersection most of the time! I’m from here so I know what to except and it is still very risky. I hope the people that can make the change are aware how bad those lights actually are!

I have driven this area multiple times and wondered how the city allows this light to continue in the way that it currently functions. It’s extremely dangerous to the person driving through the light because you don’t know if it is green or not until you are under the light and even at that you still aren’t sure if there is a wind. This needs to be fixed before someone is seriously injured.

Definitely the scariest stoplight in Raleigh. It's a bit nerve racking every time I approach not being able to see the color of the light until I'm under the light. What is the point of this type of light? Why is not just a standard light? Please make the necessary changes to make this a safer intersection it could possibly save a life or serious injury by doing so.

This intersection is beyond dangerous. You cannot see whether the light is green or red so initially you think the light is down - it’s very confusing. I am not sure what the point of the screens over the lights are but there has to be a better way. Please fix this Raleigh.

Extremely difficult to see the lights, especially from far away until you come under the lights. Recommend adding a light on the side of the road that is more visible, as an addition.

This is absolutely not dangerous and should NOT be changed. I have lived here all my life, 67 years, allow me to educate you. it would be dangerous to remove the shutters on the light. The reason this light is like this is because years ago people would overlook the first light as they were focused on the light that now has the shutters.this caused many crashes. The light is also timed to allow cars to get through without having to stop under the bridge, this doesn’t always work out because people become distracted while driving, or not going when it turns green, which causes a domino effect. Furthermore, you do not need to see the color of that light until you are there. There is no reason to need to see the light color from the other light, it will only confuse as it did years ago. If you run the yellow/red light from the previous light to the light in question, it too will also be red, as they work together. I am not sure how this is an issue unless your the people who run the stop lights every day.

I always have to drive so slow going under the bridge to see if the light is green or not. Yes please fix this dangerous situation!

The City of Raleigh is evaluating crash data, volumes, and geometrics and will follow up once this data has been reviewed.
