This is an incredibly dangerous intersection for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. It is a high-volume intersection because drivers from Dixwell and Newhallville uses this route to get downtown. There is a stop sign for drivers on Lock St but no other safety features. Therefore, there is absolutely NO safe way for pedestrians to cross: No crosswalk, no 3-way stop, no traffic light. Drivers frequently turn without checking for pedestrians. A cyclist was hit recently and many pedestrians avoid this intersection. It’s a matter of time before a fatal accident happens.
I would like to request a new Pedestrian crossing sign and a painted (ideally raised) crosswalk. It would also help if this was a 3-way Stop to reduce speeds. Thank you for your consideration.

I ride my bike to work daily through this intersection either through the Health Plan from the trail or straight down Ashmun and can attest to this issue as being ongoing and problematic. While there is no crosswalk across Ashmun at Locke, there is one across Locke and two crossing Ashmun a very short distance away in either direction at Bristol and York Sq Place, It isn't difficult to cross at Locke, walk down Ashmun, then cross at York Sq toward Payne Whitney and other buildings (same direction).
That being said, the issue is multifactorial on this stretch of road. Pedestrians don't pay attention, don't use existing crosswalks, and don't look when crossing into traffic. The there is a LOT of speeding. Speed bumps would be a great idea
As an aside, Ashmun is generally awful for cycling to begin with as the potholes are poorly patched and open up seasonally, and the at least several streetlights are out half the time.
