Our Neighbor is operating a commercial business and creating a dangerous nuisance that will eventually cause injury.
My wife and I have lived on a safe, quiet residential street in Sandy Springs—Lafayette Avenue--for 34 years. But a new neighbor moved in at 4740 Powers Ferry a year or so ago. They have been engaged in commercial activity for over a year. That commercial activity has created a dangerous nuisance on Lafayette Avenue.
For substantially over a year, every weekday, the business has parked 3 to 7 vehicles on Lafayette Avenue right up to the stop sign at the intersection with Powers Ferry Road. This has turned Lafayette Avenue into a one lane road at the intersection with Powers Ferry Road. When I go to the grocery store (for that matter anywhere) I have to put my safety at risk. I have to travel in the opposite lane from the direction I am heading in order to get to Powers Ferry. I am at risk of someone turning west from Powers Ferry as I approach and getting in a head-on collision.
The ordinances prohibiting business activity in residential areas are intended to prevent this type of dangerous nuisance.
If something is not done about this dangerous nuisance, someone is going to be seriously hurt. I myself was nearly involved in a head-on collision when I turned west on Lafayette Avenue and another motorist was proceeding east in the west bound lane. He had no choice because of the parked vehicles virtually up to the stop sign.
If it will be helpful to you, I have photographs of the parking problem that show vehicles parked so close to the intersection that they are interfering the stop sign.
For what it is worth, I and other neighbors have spoken with the Mr. Empel, but the dangerous nuisance has not abated.
