I was told by Traffic and Parking that only Yale PD handles Yale vehicles. I would call NHPD and YPD EVERY MORNING until it stops- insist and I mean INSIST on tickets being given. Show the Policea copy Public Act No. 02-56 that gives an officer the right to issue a ticket- the Yale Transit bus IS A SCHOOL BUS unless Yale can prove otherwise.

If they won't enforce the law notify the DEP Field Staff and the State Police.

I wouldn't hold your breath on Yale Transit doing anything at all. I have already been that route with idling buses.

What's the Law in Connecticut?

Connecticut law prohibits vehicles of all kinds from unnecessary idling for more than 3 minutes. Provisions are made for weather extremes, certain service vehicles and health-related conditions.

R.C.S.A. 22a-174-18 - This regulation applies to ALL vehicles in Connecticut and is enforced by DEP Field Staff.

An Act Concerning the Idling of School Buses; Public Act No. 02-56; Signed May 9, 2002. This regulation gives ticketing authority to police who witness school buses idling for longer than 3 minutes.

Yale buses are disruptive, noisy and idling along Orange Street as well. They stink up the air and noisily awaken people even after 1 AM. A few days ago one was gunning the engine repeatedly (perhaps to get the attention of people inside) very late at night. Is Yale really completely incapable of the treating the community w/respect?

This continues to be an issue. Yale really needs to rectify it.
